Excerpt from Finding America

As we dropped down into Montrose we could see the biggest, baddest, blackest cloud we'd ever seen dead ahead. It looked really runny from the torrents of rain pouring out of it. Big bolts of lightning were shooting out around the perimeter.

We were riding right on the edge of that monster. I speeded up enough to pull even with Jim. We grinned at each other, shook our fists at that angry sky, and poured more fuel to our bikes. The race was on, and we were hoping to come out ahead of the game for a change.
